Why Do We Sing The Songs We Do?

We realize that many people come to MCF for the first few times and are unfamiliar with the songs we sing.  There are reasons for our choice of songs.

1) The Bible tells us to worship God in spirit and truth (John 4:24).  God commands worship, but also commands us to worship according to His truthful Word.  For this reason, we choose hymns and songs that have lyrics which reflect the truths of Scripture.  Next time you are at MCF, really think about the words you are singing and you will be surprised at the depth of truth contained in them.

2) We also recognize that lyrics combined with music have a special way of sticking in our memory.  Consequently, as you sing, hopefully the theological and Scriptural truths of these songs are being embedded into your memory.  Then, the truths become a part of your everyday life.  For example, if you are having one of those days when your sin becomes especially apparent, the comforting words of "O love that will not let me go" might spring up to remind you that indeed God's grace is bigger than my wickedness.

3) Lastly, most of the hymns and songs we sing have been sung for decades.  In the present day, many songs are considered "too new" by the older generations.  And many "older" songs are considered "too traditional" by the younger generation.  However, we are all the body of Christ (Eph. 4), and we are to worship together.  By putting old words, to new tunes, we are able to sing together with generations of the past and future.

If you are interested in hearing and better learning the songs we sing.  You can purchase a cd from this link: Indelible Grace.  We unfortunately receive no money from your purchase, but the cd's are well worth it.
